We set out early on the 1st., hoping to make a quick trip out and back in with at least 1/4 of the dome. With advice and instructions along the way we set out to find a shorter path to the parking lot(s) so that we wouldn't have to carry the dome such a long way.

On the way out, at Midway (I think), was this statue. Nice work, not sure I understand it, something about shark attack.

What a trip that turned out to be. Got to the truck after a couple of shuttles, which were really having difficulty laboring under the thumb of the LEOs. The drill was - to be a shuttle driver or a kitchen runner one had to turn over an ID to the LEOs, "for your safety". At the truck we found a flat tire and a flat spare. There was a can of fixaflat in my stuff, so we got a partial inflation but the compressor wouldn't work due to a blown lighter fuse. A trip to town seemed to be the answer, so we set off toward Evanston. Along the way we got to follow a crew that was busily digging up boulders and leaving them along the road, in the road, making it pretty hard to drive and stay on your side of the road. LEOs were cruising to make sure nobody messed up. Can't be driving like an anarchist, ya know. A few miles of that and we hit the pavement and on into town. Wally world had a sale on tires and somebody had plastic, so we hit subway for some food not containing beans and rice, while a new set of tires was mounted on the truck. The sisters working at subway were really sweet, fixing up great veggie delights so fat that the wrapper wouldn't go around them. : ) Thanks, kind sisters!

Getting back home, we found that the roads had been partially opened, and since we had picked up some folks and supplies along the way, we got to drive in to lower bus village. Wonderful! Now we only had to carry the dome about a mile to our camp on what had now become known as Peace Hill, on the north end of the meadow.

We each grabbed about thirty pounds of dome struts and a few other essentials, about a third of the total dome, and carried them in for the end of another satisfying day.
